I’m not a big guy by whatever standards you choose to judge me, weight, height or size but one thing I enjoy most is walking into the gym and squatting or dead-lifting weights. I’m a recent convert to the gym and I’m far from being an expert or master. But, one thing I have learned is that to lift any weight especially free weights, I have to be totally focused and engaged.

If I’m not, I am setting myself for failure and certain injury. It is the same with life and anything else you want to achieve in life. You need to be engaged 110% in whatever you want to accomplish. This requires deliberately engaging your heart, mind, and senses to accomplish goals. The 110% sensory rule helps you improve how you learn and execute ideas. Research has proven that you remember.

  1. 10% of what you hear: so listen and pay attention. Be engaged. Sound is a good medium for transmitting any information.
  2. 20% of what you read: study and validate whatever you hear. Seeing written words and patterns is a powerful catalyst for developing your memory. Use 10% of the information you hear and retain, to read and enhance your knowledge about a subject.
  3. 80% of what you see and do: visualize and think about something and do it. What you visualize and act upon is energy for transformation. Use 20% of what you retain from reading to develop a vision (your ability to see a practical solution) and strategy (your intent to do the right things to make it happen).

All 3 sensory engagements, create the right conditions for transformation. This is because you get the information, energy and a catalyst to initiate change.

If all your actions involve all 3 sensory engagements, it adds up and improves the likelihood of accomplishing something meaningful.

Importantly, engage 110% to fulfill and accomplish goals that generate great memories and enriching experiences.

Listen, read, see and do to achieve more, grow more and become the person you want to become.

If you go to the gym for a week you will feel marginally different. If you make fitness a lifetime goal you are invested in 110%, you will certainly be transformed.

I talk about the 110% sensory engagement rule in my book How to Own your car.

#focusonwhatmatters with the 110% sensory engagement rule.

Some people say they are aural learners, others say they are readers. Some say that they are action oriented. Is it possible to apply all 3?

#beingintentional and being #engaged in something increases the likelihood of success.
